PNMHI was established in 2008 as a non-profit college by its parent organization, the Pratiman Neema Memorial Foundation (PNMF). The Pratiman Neema Memorial Foundation (PNMF) was initially established in 2008 with a focus to enhance the general welfare of the people and the communities in the Nepal's Pyuthan district. It was founded in 2003 in memory of former district governor, the late Pratiman Chand Bohara.
Born in a small village called Aglung, in the neighboring district of Gulmi, Pratiman Chand Bohara had a remarkable career. He began his career in the military as an ordinary solider and eventually became an officer. During the 1950 democratic liberation movement that overthrew Nepal's autocratic Rana dynasty, he led a group soldier turned freedom fighters to free and successfully defend the district of Palpa in western Nepal, a former stringhold of Rana regime. Following t=he successful revolution, Pratiman Neema Bohara became governor of Pyuthan.
Throughout his life Governor Bohara was passionate about socio-economic causes and local development. He believed in decentralization, self-reliance and community development through local resources and volunteerism. He saw fundamental flaws in Nepal's then overly centralized administrative systems and regionla neglect, especially of those who were poor and powerless. Bohara lived his belief and engaged in many forms of grass-root driven development work during his lifetime including constructing roads and establishing the first high school in the Pyuthan region.
These far-reaching, visionary ideas, expressed in letters and diaries, were turned into a biography by PNMF 50 years after Pratiman Bohara's death. The inspiration for this biography came in 2001 when his youngest grandson, Sudeep Chand Bohara, a 4th grader at Mark Twain Elementary School in Albuquerque, New Mexico spontaneously recounted his grandfather's legacy and praised his Nepali heritage during a media class project on a local TV news program. It was only fitting that the first project of PNMF was the successful grant funding of the science wing in Ratamata, Pyuthan high school. Subsequently, the PNMF planted the seed for a polytechnic college in Bhairahawa. We are very confident that his legacy and memory will continue to inspire his admirers and well-wishers for many years to come.
